The counselor´s office is full of information from universities from all over the world

High school is supposed to prepare students for all of their future academic pursuits, last week the high school building was flooded with posters that announced college admission officer visits. Many juniors and seniors attended these conferences and took note of things they have to do before or while applying to college.

On Monday, October 6th, Colegio Interamericano had the honor of being visited by Mr. Greg Smith, an admissions officer from Northeastern University in Boston. The information session was very light hearted and Mr. Smith made various jokes, which kept the audience interested. Senior, Maria Fernanda Arenas, commented on the presentation, "He gave a great presentation, it was not boring at all. He talked about the different programs NU has and they sound very interesting." Mr. Smith encouraged all students who attended to do their best while in school, not only in their academics, but to also get involved in extracurricular activities. He also informed students of financial aid opportunities and about not letting a lack of funds discourage them from aiming high.

This information session was very helpful and made students so interested in NU that a senior student even got together with Mr. Smith for a one-on-one admissions interview. She described him as helpful, supportive and enthusiastic when answering all of her queries about majors, dual-majors, housing, financial aid and other relevant information. "I was a bit scared about the meeting with him because he looked very serious at first, but the made jokes and told me everything I needed to know about Northeastern", she commented, "Mr. Smith even said that he was looking forward to reading my application".

Last Friday, Interamericano was visited by the number one university in Canada, University of Toronto, and also by University of British Columbia. Many students signed up and attended this conference and also found it very helpful. These are once in a lifetime opportunities that can improve the chances of students being admitted to their dream college and gaining an advantage when being considered for financial aid. These college visits will probably not be the last ones, as a matter of fact, this month, Mr. Will from "Will Get You In" will be visiting the school to give information on the process of applying to universities in Guatemala and abroad. It is recommended that all students interested in attending an American, Canadian or Guatemalan college attend these information sessions.
